What is LASIK?

Can LASIK correct presbyopia?

Monovision LASIK

In monovision LASIK, your Eye Care & Surgery ophthalmologist corrects refractive errors in one eye only. One eye handles the distance vision while the other mainly handles the close-up vision. Your eyes learn to work as a team to make monovision work well for vision correction at all distances. 

How does LASIK surgery work?

During LASIK surgery, your Eye Care & Surgery ophthalmologist creates a small flap in your cornea. Then, using an excimer laser, they precisely reshape the corneal tissue to correct your refractive errors. 

Finally, your ophthalmologist repositions the corneal flap to end the procedure. In most cases, the corneal flap heals on its own with no stitches needed. 

Is LASIK right for me?

A consultation at Eye Care & Surgery is the best way to find out whether you’re a good LASIK candidate. In general, patients with refractive errors can be good LASIK candidates if they have healthy corneas, and their vision prescription falls within certain ranges. 

If your corneas are too thin for LASIK, you can likely still get vision correction with another type of surgery, like PRK. If you have extremely severe nearsightedness, for example, premium lens implants (implantable contact lenses) might be a better option than LASIK.
